The ball drop test is to drop a steel ball on the convex surface of the lens from a certain height to observe whether the lens is broken. FDA uses it to test the impact resistance of lenses. The FDA mainly tests lenses. During the test, the lenses will be framed with a clamp for this test. The steel ball is required to have a diameter of 0.625 inches, a weight equivalent to 1 ounce dropped from a height of 50 inches, and the lens is required not to be broken.

    When lenses or sunglasses are exported to the United States, they need to pass the drop ball test, also called the drop test. According to the standard 21 CFR801.410. Steel balls used for drop impact tests to prove that the batch of products exported to the United States meet the standard requirements and qualifications for impact resistance. When exporting related goods to the United States, you should note that not only all FDA manufacturer and product registration numbers must be provided during U.S. customs clearance, but also the following factory batch quality inspection documents must be provided.
